How to stop the water supply if your faucet breaks

A faucet can break suddenly, which will surprise you, and the water will be spilling all over the place. If this happens do not get panicked, just have a look beneath the sink and you will see water shut off valves. There are usually two valves: one for cold water and the other for hot. Turn them in a clockwise direction and they will close the water supply. Do not apply too much force suddenly on the valves or you may break them and end up with an even bigger problem. If they are stuck, use a pair of pliers to gently loosen them. If they get loosened up and the inner seat is not turned, simply tighten the screw on top and try again.
